What we collect, and why

• If you email us: your email address, your name if you give it, and whatever you write. We use it to answer you and, if it turns into work, to quote for it and do it. Our email runs on Google Workspace.
• When you visit: the site is hosted by Vercel. Like any web host, Vercel handles the technical details every request carries, such as your IP address, browser and the page asked for, in order to deliver the page and keep the service secure. We do not use those details to identify you or build a picture of you.
• On your own device: the homepage keeps a short list of the plate numbers you have seen, in your browser's local storage under the name bb-plates. It is what lets the footer say how many of the nine plates you have seen on this device. It holds only those numbers, it never leaves your browser and we cannot read it. Clearing this site's data in your browser removes it.
• The weather: the homepage colours follow London's weather. Our server asks Open-Meteo for the weather at a fixed point in London; nothing about you is sent.
• Private pages: two areas of the site are for the studio's own use. Logging in to them sets a single login cookie. If you are not one of us you will not meet it.

We do not sell anything we hold, and we do not share it for anyone else's marketing.

Why we are allowed to

UK GDPR asks us to name a lawful basis for each use:

• Answering your email: legitimate interests, Article 6(1)(f), or the steps before a contract where you are asking us for a quote, Article 6(1)(b).
• Work you commission: contract, Article 6(1)(b), and legal obligation for the records we must keep.
• Serving the site and keeping it secure: legitimate interests.

How long we keep it

• An enquiry that did not lead to work: 12 months from the last message.
• If you became a customer: correspondence and order records for 6 years after your last order, for company and tax records.
• Hosting request logs: held by Vercel for the short period its own service keeps them, not by us.
• The bb-plates list: until you clear it. It is on your device, not ours.
• The login cookie on the private pages: 30 days.

Ask us to delete something sooner and we will, unless we are required to keep a record of it.

Who else handles it

Two service providers, each acting on our instructions:

• Google, for our email (Google Workspace)
• Vercel, for hosting this site

Both may process data outside the UK. Where they do, the transfer is covered by the safeguards in their own data processing terms.

Your rights

You can ask to see what we hold about you, have it corrected or erased, restrict or object to how we use it, and have a copy in a portable form. Email george@bowerbirdstudios.co.uk and we will answer.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk. We would rather you came to us first, but you do not have to.

Changes

If what the site collects changes, this page changes with it and the date at the top moves.
